What We Believe

And Why We Believe It

Our Identity is in Jesus Christ

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!

Hildale Park Presbyterian Church, a Bible-centered congregation, affirms the love of God through our personal relationships with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and pledges to share his divine love with one another and the world.

With Jesus Christ as our guide, Hildale Park Presbyterian Church strives to be a vibrant member of the community sharing his divine wisdom and our talents through music, outreach, and spiritual nourishment.
We Believe that God is :

One, and triune: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, without confusion, without division, and without change. We reject both modalism (one god in three forms) and tritheism (three gods).

We believe that God the Father is the creator and sustainer of all that exists, the Lord of all life, and the only proper recipient of human worship.

We believe that in Jesus Christ the word of God became fully human. We believe that Christ modeled perfect obedience to God's law, living the life we should have lived. At the cross, Jesus died the death we should have died as sinners apart from grace, and opened the way of salvation so that all who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is Christ's presence with us, applying Christ's justification to us to sanctify us, empowering and equipping us with spiritual gifts for mission, and interceding for us in prayer with sighs too deep for words.
We Believe that the Bible is:

The uniquely inspired and authoritative word of God.

Comprised of 66 Books, 39 from the Old Testament and 27 from the New Testament.
While other ancient writings of the Jews and the early church may be edifying or uplifting or suitable for Christian study, they are not God-inspired the way the 66 books of our Bible are.

Useful for teaching, correction, and training in righteousness.

The measure against which all creeds, confessions, and doctrine is tested.

Not written to us, but written for us
. Although we are not the original recipients of the epistles or the prophecies, and understanding the scriptures in their original context is essential to the faith, nevertheless the Bible remains timely and relevant for Christians of every generation.
We Believe that the Church is:

Christ's body on earth.

The institution granted the authority to administer the sacraments, of which we recognize two: Baptism and communion. We believe that Baptism is effectual for both believers who profess their faith before the church, and for children whose parents covenant with the whole church to raise them in the faith, as it is Christ who calls both, not human decision, and Christ who saves both, not human works.
We believe that Christ is present in spirit when we take communion, for believers who are filled with the Holy Spirit. Communion is open to all believers in Jesus who have had a Trinitarian baptism regardless of the denomination or congregation in which the baptism took place, but is not to be taken lightly, and should only be taken after confessing sins to the Lord and expressing sincere repentance, lest the partaker "eat and drink judgement on themselves."

Commissioned to go into all the world, preaching the gospel to all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that Christ commanded.

Bigger than our congregation and our denomination. We count all those who were baptized in the name of the Trinity and who sincerely submit to the lordship of Jesus Christ and believe in the resurrection of the dead as sisters and brothers in Christ, able to take communion whenever they worship with us.

Made up of the priesthood of all believers. We believe that all Christians are called to minister in the name of Christ, proclaim his word, hear confession from brothers and sisters, and serve the Lord with gladness and thanksgiving.

One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.
